Gardens by the Bay – Fort Canning Park – Little India – The National Gallery – Chinatown

The Sultan Mosque, right around the corner from our accommodation. It was very pleasant to sit outside our hostel in the evening and hear the call to prayer broadcasting through the loudspeaker.
This strange Aztec wall attracted a lot of photographs from tourists and locals alike.
We decided to walk from our accommodation to Gardens by the Bay (about 30 minutes walk). The route we took, led us across this bridge and gave us pretty spectacular sights of the downtown.
Immediately as we entered the gardens, this photo op showed up. In the background is the Singapore Flyer, which was (until 2014) the tallest Ferris wheel in the world.
Inside one of the glass domes at the gardens, the Cloud Forest. Plants everywhere, and strange and unusual sculptures hidden amongst them.
Several stories high, and covered in plants. We took the lift up, and then meandered our way down by the walkways.
Not sure where these guys fit into the history of Singapore… but there they are.
Natalie, looking a lot less sweaty due to how cool and refreshing it was in the dome compared to the outside world.
The next dome along, the Flower Dome, was broken into sections of the world, and featured plants from each area.
The bottle trees of Africa.
There were driftwood sculptures all over the Flower Dome, this was one of the more impressive.
That night, we tracked down one of Singapore’s Michelin star food hawkers. This pork noodle dish was packed with pork in various forms, had a delicious vinegar sauce, and cost about $6 USD each.
Words to live by.
Fort Canning Park. A lush rain forest smack bang in the middle of Singapore.
Filled with all manner of whimsical trees…
… and brightly coloured flowers.
This wall carving stretched a good 10 metres or so, and told the story of the history of early Singapore.
More excellent trees.
And this guy.
This mysterious door didn’t lead anywhere particularly interesting., but it looked forbidden.
Saint Josephs Church. Not at all surprising to see in Singapore, when you consider how multi-religious the country is.
Heading in for a closer look. It’s funny, that even as non-religious people, a church just seems so familiar to us that we feel more comfortable in one, as opposed to a mosque or a Hindi temple.
We’d heard good things about the National Gallery, so we stopped in on one of the rainy days. Natalie took a bunch of great photos of the architecture, but this was my favourite piece from inside.
Me taking a photo of Natalie taking a photo of me taking a photo of a reflective ball.
This sculpture was fun (and made us envious, in the heat of the day). This guy knew he was posing with it, but not that I was taking his photo as well!
Chinatown!
This temple was all closed up, but it looked very appealing from the outside.
So many interesting little details to see, in the temples we were able to enter.
This guy is the protector for anyone born in the year of the tiger (me).
Little India was a blast of an entirely different culture, and brought with it a whole different style.
This was my first time either outside or inside a Hindi temple. The detail is astounding. Inside, it was chaotic.
