Kyoto (Again)

– Imperial Palaces and Castles

Heading off to check out the Kyoto Imperial Palace, we were pleased to discover that there were not only some great cherry blossoms, but that we were there early enough that we didn’t have to share them with millions of people.
So many different shades.

I tried to get a nice reflection in the water.
The outer walls of the Imperial Palace. Impressively long.

This sinister guy was hanging out just under the edge of the roof.
I liked this door. It doesn’t lead anywhere special.
Natalie entering the inner gate of the palace.
A handy post, for an overgrown branch.

Again with the juxtaposition of roofs. I like them.
This old wooden building had burnt down, and been subsequently rebuilt, several times.

A proper Japanese garden. It was very peaceful.

Following our visit to the palace, we were going to take the bus down to Nijo Castle, however we discovered this little path, below street level, which took us the entire way (without having to stop at traffic lights!).
One of the guard towers of the castle.

I had to sprint off to try and get this shot of Natalie coming out from between the walls. Hence, her bemused look.
