Tsurunoyu Onsen

– The ultimate experience of Japanese style relaxation

Some older Japanese dudes, in their duds, checking out the sunset.
Off to the left is the onsen, and to the right, the rooms. This stream would be a lovely cooling spot during the summer months.
The outdoor Onsen (rotenburo)! So good.
The indoor pool. Not very big, and generally not as appealing as the outdoor one. A nice spot to warm up before the hustle across the courtyard to the outdoor pool.
We couldn’t really believe how much snow was still on the ground here. It wasn’t outrageously cold, so we were surprised that the snow hadn’t melted.

The official dog of the Akita region. There were photos of him everywhere.

Natural cooling system: Icy cold mountain water!
The inside of the sleeping quarters building.
Our room was second on the left.
Some of the mascots of Akita? Hard to say, our Japanese isn’t up to scratch.
Epic mountains, surrounding a tiny little train station town.
