Cologne – Berlin

The Cologne Cathedral. An evil building, made from the bones of conquered Dusseldorfians (factually incorrect).
A dog gargoyle. Or is it a grotesque.

The inside. Everyone was going on and on about how glorious the interior of the Notre Dame de Paris was, with the sunlight streaming in through the grand stained glass windows. I thought the Cologne Cathedral was much more impressive.
The bone room of The Church of Saint Ursula.
Creepy.
Berlin! A classic. So good, it was stolen twice! (Once by the French, then it was stolen back)
One of the entrances to museum island.

One of my favourite parts of the Pergamon Museum, the Ishtar Gate.
Unfortunately the Pergamon altar was undergoing repairs when we visited, but this is a pretty good perk, regardless.

A wall to an old Roman market place. Still with graffiti, marking where an specific seller would set up shop.
In the Iranian part of the museum.

There was a newer Islamic section to the museum which wasn’t there when I last visited (10 years ago!). It has some sweet prayer nooks.

Walking around Berlin, we were treated to some pretty skies, and the odd nice bridge. I think this one was Prussian (or at least it looked like it was).

From the top of the victory monument in the center of the Tiergarten.
Natalie observes.
The Tiergarten was blissfully empty. It was still cold enough that people hadn’t been lured out, but the weather was nice enough that Natalie and I enjoyed meandering around the gardens.
The Holocaust memorial. Or more accurately: The Holocaust Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. The Germans can be bluntly honest about the darker side of their history.
