Namibia 101: A giant canyon, epic views, and empty roads

How different can two countries which share a land border be? We thought that Namibia would be pretty similar to the part of South Africa we’d just left. We couldn’t have been more wrong. The minute we crossed the border, it was completely different.
The wide expanse. The colours of the mountains in the distance. Unreal.
We pulled over at one point to get a closer look. At this point, we’d passed maybe one other car on the major highway from South Africa into Namibia.

Cue our first dirt road. Still barely seeing a soul.
This was at the side of the road. Worth checking out.

That’s our little car in the distance. Wish him luck…

As different to South Africa was to Namibia, Namibia was that different from Namibia. Every hour or so, the landscape seemed to change drastically.
Our first night camping. We were to spend 29 nights in this little tent…
Our first introduction into the epicness which is sunset in Namibia.
This owl stopped by this exact tree both nights we stayed here.
The next morning, the baboons we were warned about: “Don’t keep any food out, or in your tent. It will attract the baboons!”
The canyon!
This bird.
One Natalie.
There was a little path which lead from the main viewpoint to a secondary one (which also doubles as the starting point for the 5-day hike through the canyon), we were the only people who decided to walk it, but it provided some alternate (and we think: superior) views.
We had seen one of the famous Quivertrees on the road to the campsite, but this was our first closeup sighting.
Either: Natalie surveying the view, OR, a cunning Osprey backpack advertisement.

The view.

Avoiding the most intense heat of the day, we headed back to the campsite to chill and swim. This guy had the right idea.
