We drove across the border with South Africa in the south, making our way to the coast at Lüderitz, inland through the desert and then back to the coast at Swakopmund. We left Namibia via Etosha, and then the Caprivi region before heading south into Botswana. Self driving in Namibia is not for the faint of heart, but we’ve got a few tips on how to do it as safely and comfortably as possible!

Starting our Southern Africa road trip in Johannesburg, we drove beside the northern border with Lesotho to Bloemfontein, down south to the coast, along the garden route to Cape Town, north into Namibia, and then finally south from Botswana to Pretoria.
