An awesome road and a deserted diamond town

There isn’t much photographic evidence, but the road trip from Fish River Canyon along B4 to Luderitz was fantastic. Almost completely empty, but with ever-changing landscapes. Making the most of the emptiness, we took some photos on the road.
There were signs warning of wild horses. For good reason.

Once in Luderitz, we realised there really wasn’t all that much to see. We could drive out to a peninsula to try and spot some wildlife, or take a trip to the beach in the hopes of seeing some Flamingos. We opted for the beach.
We didn’t see any flamingos, but we did see these cool looking patterns created by the wind.
On our way out of Luderitz, we stopped by the ghost town of Kolmanskop.
It was very cool clambering throughout these decrepit buildings as they were reclaimed by the desert.

This was the old hospital. It was quite eerie.
Some of the doors were totally unusable.
This was one of my favourite buildings, because of barely-there ceiling. The light was great!

Ominous.
Care for a bath? The residents of Kolmanskop had seawater on tap, so that’s what they’d have been bathing in…
